My Story........

How did I get here?

The year before my daughter started school was a big turning point in my career, I just knew I did not want to go back to my job in teaching full-time and progress up the ladder.  I did know I wanted to learn something new and that I loved supporting the students with their wellbeing, but what options were there?

The idea of working for myself around my children was very appealing, having looked at various courses, I found the Level 5 Reflexology Practitioner course.  Having had first-hand experience of reflexology, I was fully aware of its benefits. I truly believe reflexology not only played a huge part in supporting my mental health through a difficult period, it also re-balanced my hormones contributing to the conception of my daughter.

Light bulb moment, this is what I want to do, it was a way I could continue to do the aspect of my job I loved by supporting others to enhance their wellbeing but in a different way!  Within a week I had booked on to the course.

It was a tough year studying, working part-time and looking after my family, but it was worth it!!  On my last weekend of studying my husband and parents put together my log cabin so I was ready to start my own business and build-up ReFoxology!  Once qualified I continued my 3-days teaching for a year while I built-up clients and tried to figure out how to run my own business.  It was tough and I have learnt a lot, social media which was definitely not my thing!! But a necessary aspect to reach potential clients.

I knew I wanted to support others with high levels of anxiety as I have seen the affects it has on teenagers so when the Functional Reflex Therapy (FRT) and Mindful Reflexology courses was advertised, I signed up and completed in 2020.  Since then this has been my focus, this is what I want to be doing, supporting mums and their children who suffer daily from high levels of anxiety to provide them with a safe environment to ‘switch off’ and relax as well as provide  practical tools to create a more positive and calmer home environment. These courses have been hugely beneficial for my progression as a reflexologist as I now work in a Specialist school delivering reflexology to children with autism as well as self-care hand reflexology workshops within mainstream schools and work places to support, understand and manage emotional wellbeing.

As my client base has grown, it has been important for me to further develop my knowledge to support my clients and understand my own life changes, so it was a natural step for me to complete the Reflexology for menopause Training. At this phase in a women’s life anxiety often has a huge impact, especially in our sense of purpose.  Being able to support women through this phase has been hugely rewarding.

Working alone can be quite daunting so I jumped at the opportunity of being an Associate with Sunshine Wellbeing.  I am now part of a local Therapy Team who are incredibly supportive and on-hand when I need advice.  I have collaborated with a number of associates when delivering workshops which has been amazing to see how reflexology compliments therapies such as counselling and psychotherapy.  You can find out more about Sunrise Wellbeing at their website here.

If you would like to have more of chat about how reflexology or the workshops can work for you or your family, please contact me via phone 07889137168 or email nicola@refoxology.co.uk

I look forward to hearing from you.
